The Windows of Heaven

So I just read and listened to this absolutely amazing talk from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints General Conference. The talk was given by Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. It is titled The Windows of Heaven.

This was a beautiful reminder of the value and blessings of paying tithing and a reminder that the Lord uses the tithing of his people to bless the Church, but it is used in inspired ways.

I guess what really struck me about this article is how Elder Bednar spoke of the blessings we receive from paying our tithing faithfully. We are promised if we:

10  Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11  And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.

12  And all nations shall call you blesses: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.

Malachi 3:10-12

But Elder Bednar emphasized that though we may receive spiritual and temporal blessings they are not always in the ways that we expect.  "We may need and pray for help to find suitable employment. Eyes and ears of faith are needed, however to recognize the spiritual gift of enhanced discernment that can empower us to identify job opportunities that many other people might overlook--or the blessing of greater personal determination to search harder and longer for a position than other people may be able or willing to do. We might want and expect a job offer, but the blessing that comes to us through heavenly windows may be greater capacity to act and change our own circumstances rather than expecting our circumstances to be changed by someone or something else.

"We may appropriately desire and work to receive a pay raise in our employment to better provide the necessities of life. Eyes and ears of faith are required, however, to notice in us an increased spiritual and temporal capacity to do more with less, a keener ability to prioritize and simplify, and an enhanced ability to take proper care of the material possessions we already have acquired. We might want and expect a larger paycheck, but the blessing that comes to us through heavenly windows may be greater capacity to change our own circumstances rather than expecting our circumstances to be changed by someone or something else."

These words have struck me with such a feeling of truth and power that makes me want to change the way I look at the blessings I receive from paying my tithing. I must actively search for how the Lord has blessed me instead of focusing on what I don't have or appear to have and find the "greater capacity to change [my own] circumstances."

I encourage everyone to read this talk as it will inspire and uplift and hopefully encourage us to look for the blessings and make positive changes in our lives accordingly.

Finished!!!!

Yeah!!!! I finally finished the Fire prequel series. I feel so free and happy. It's done...obviously not thoroughly edited...but it's done. Now I can finally focus on other projects that have been begging for my attention. I can finally finish with the dryads and let their story be told.

Oh the joy that comes with finishing a book. I can hardly say. Hopefully someday soon my readers will be able to read all about the Storm and the Fire.

Happy day!!!

The World Needs Pioneers Today

I totally love this article I read yesterday and I can't help but want to shout it to everyone I know, so the best way for me to shout it is to post it here and hope that my readers will enjoy it as much as I did and work to create a better world one step at a time.

Dear Editor

Dear Editor,

It took me a while to not be upset and frustrated. It's good that we made it all the way to chapter 12 before this happened and of course after some serious thought, contemplation, frustration, more contemplation, and a bunch of other emotions I have come to the conclusion that you are right, mostly. Hopefully we will be on the same page after you review what I rewrote and edited and rewrote again.

Sigh,

Author

Dear Fire,

Okay, I know pushing you aside was the right thing to do while I tried to work on other things, but I have to admit that I am thoroughly enjoying working with you right now.

Cheers,

Writer

Dear Dryads,

I'm so sorry you have been shoved aside. I will return. I promise. Just as soon as I'm done burning.

Fiery Yours,

MMason

Dear Blog,

I know you've been neglected. Don't worry, so has everything else in my life.

Crazily busy,

Blogger

Books...Again

So I've actually been reading again and I've apparently been on an Orson Scott Card kick. I finally read Shadow of the Giant and Shadows in Flight and I am anxiously awaiting Speaker for the Dead to come to my library branch.

I also just finished Rachel and Leah from his Women of Genesis series. This one really made me think...about a lot of things...I'm not sure I totally loved it, but I also didn't hate it. It was a good book, but...

That's exactly how I felt about The Hunger Games. They were good books, but...

Anyways. I thought I would share a little of what I have actually been reading that doesn't belong to me. I'm still working on the Storm stuff and now I have a little Fire mixed in. :)

Happy readings.

Slacker and then some.

So I haven't really been into my blog lately. I've been crazy busy with my job and commuting and stuff. So, I'm sorry there hasn't been anything interesting or new to peruse. Hopefully soon I will find a break and some inspiration to start a new story. If not then hopefully I will be able to publish one of my existing novels and then I can tell everyone all about it.

Have a great day and happy reading!!!

I am a totally crazy writer

So is it totally insane that I just wrote a 118 page book in four days?

I already knew I had no life, especially when I'm on call and not at home, but this seems a little insane even for me.

Well now the question is: is it good?

Yeah, I think so. At least I think it is. Does it need editing? Duh, and I'm sure lots of it.

Yep, I'm still in shock. I'm thinking total inspiration, divine guidance, the stars aligned. All of the above!

Crazy. Wow. Crazy.

Memorial Day

Today is a day for remembering.
We need to remember to thank the Lord for the this amazing land and all the other blessings we've been given.
We need to thank the men and women, past and present, who give their time, talents, energies and lives to give us freedom.
We need to thank our families and friends for loving us and putting up with our peculiar behaviors and idiosyncrasies.
We need to thank our husbands and wives for being our friends, partners, and loves.
We need to thank our children for bringing entertainment, love, joy, and even challenges to our lives that makes us stronger.
We need to thank our employers, even the ones we don't like, for giving us an opportunity to work and for those who don't have jobs, thank the people who are willing to help, serve, and get them on their feet if they choose.
We need to thank those who have gone before us, who have fought, lived, and loved their children enough to want a better country.
Memorial Day is for remembering. Even if it is simply remembering the one act of kindness that made you smile, please remember.

I have a good friend who shared her story and I would like to share it with my readers.
This Is My Story.

Today I remember, so tomorrow I can live with gratitude.

Dear Editor

Dear English Language,

I never really understood just how complicated and complex you were until I started writing novels. I am amazed at how many different versions or words and phrases there are and to make things even worse one word can have multiple meanings that will confuse and distort even more.

Cheers to the millions of people in the world who have mastered you and cheers to all my English teachers throughout elementary, middle, high schools and college. Wow. Yep that's it, wow!

Sincerely,

Author

P.S. First off I have never done a ps and you should be honored. Second, I'm sorry but because of my imagination I'm afraid I have invented new words. :)

Dear Keyboard,

What is up with you. Are you getting hot or overworked or something? Seriously, I am waaaay too busy for you to be acting up and you are waaaay too new to be having issues. Snap to it now, let's get to work.

Tap, tap, tapping on the keys,

Typist

Dear Seranea,

Oh, honey, I'm so sorry you had to be poisoned, but I'm glad we have new dimensions to work with in the people you are now associating with. Who would have thought...elflins. Also you really don't have too much to complain about. Talk to Eridale and she'll tell you what pain really is.

Sorry again,

Imagination

Dear Storm,

Ha Ha! I have finally managed to subdue your evil counterpart, the prequel series, and have actually been able to focus on the dryads. Back back ye stormy fiend, I shall triumph yet!

Fighting Fingers,

Challenged

Dear Elvish,

I know there are so many writers out there who have invented their own elvish language and I am very excited to now add my scattering of words to that mess. Although I think I like my elvish best of all, but that is probably just a pride thing.
